Chief Engineer

Our client is an industrial manufacturer based in Barbados. We are looking for a Chief Engineer to form part of the executive leadership team of this operation. The Chief Engineer will provide strategic leadership and governance over the engineering and plant infrastructure functions with responsibility for long-term asset reliability, capital planning, risk management, engineering standards and infrastructure sustainability

The Role

The Chief Engineer will have comprehensive responsibility and be held accountable for the following:

Engineering Strategy & Governance

○    Developing and implementing the long-term engineering and asset management strategy for the operation, ensuring alignment between engineering capability and overall business strategy.

○    Establishing engineering policies, standards, and performance benchmarks.

Capital Planning & Infrastructure Development

○    Leading the full scope of capital planning initiatives, including plant modernization and infrastructure upgrades.

○    Overseeing feasibility studies, vendor selection, and contract negotiations for major projects.

Asset Reliability & Risk Management

○    Overseeing plant-wide asset reliability programs.

○    Leading risk assessments related to critical equipment and utilities.

○    Developing business continuity strategies for infrastructure failures.

○    Monitoring key engineering performance indicators (MTBF, downtime trends, energy utilization, etc.)

Operational Support & Technical Advisory

○    Serving as senior technical advisor providing high-level troubleshooting guidance for major technical issues.

Compliance, Safety & Environmental Oversight

○Providing executive oversight of plant compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Leadership & Organizational Development

○    Providing leadership to Engineering Teams.

○    Participating in workforce planning and succession planning at a senior level.

The Candidate

The Chief Engineer should possess:

○    Master’s Degree in Engineering (Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Engineering Management) with at least 10 years of progressive experience in industrial manufacturing.

○    At least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity with strategic accountability.

○    Certification in Asset Management (e.g., ISO 55001), Project Management (PMP), or Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is strongly preferred.

○    MBA or postgraduate qualification in Strategic Management, Asset Management, or Business Leadership is preferred.

○    Chartered Engineer (or equivalent professional registration) is preferred.

○    Proven experience managing large-scale capital projects and plant modernization initiatives.
