CAREER OPPORTUNITY - PURCHASING ASSISTANT

Our client, a well-established wholesale company with over 37 years in the industry, specialises in supplying wines, champagne, port, and a wide range of dry and frozen food products to hotels and restaurants. We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and proactive individual to join their team as a Purchasing Assistant.

The Role

The Purchasing Assistant will assist the Purchasing Manager as directed and will be responsible for:

  • Costing of inventory, ensuring timely completion and accuracy with respect to any taxes and duties.
  • Ensuring all invoices are forwarded to the Purchasing Manager and the Accounts Department.
  • Ensuring current filing of all Costings, Purchase orders, Government tenders and general documentation relating to the Purchasing Department.
  • Assisting with Customs clearance/documentation and coordination of consolidation of inventory.
  • Ensuring all applications are completed to facilitate shipments on arrival.
  • Arranging shipping/freighting; ensuring timely arrival of inventory at warehouse and cost effectiveness.
  • Receiving and inspecting shipment arrivals with Warehouse Supervisors, filling out damage/shortage claim forms and following up to ensure receipt and application of credits.
  • Providing timely bonded transfers to keep bonded warehouse up to date.
  • Assisting with the annual stock taking process.
  • Ensuring compliance with rules and regulations; ensuring all duties, taxes and relevant legal requirements are met and kept current.

The Candidate

The Purchasing Assistant should possess:

  • At least 3 years’ work experience in costing, purchasing and inventory management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to be proactive and flexible in responding to varied situations.
  • Ability to be a team player, yet capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite namely Word and Excel and a working knowledge of ACCPAC is desirable.
