Career Opportunity - Civil/Structural Engineer
Our client, Theobalds Consulting Inc., is seeking to recruit a Civil/Structural Engineer to support its dynamic engineering team in St. Lucia. The Engineer will support the civil/structural engineering team in design, analysis, project management and construction supervision, working on projects such as residential, commercial and public infrastructure, often with considerations for hurricane resilience and sustainable development.
The Role:
- Supervise engineering technicians and CAD technicians.
- Assist in designing structures using reinforced concrete, steel, timber, and masonry.
- Perform calculations for load-bearing capacity, wind resistance and seismic resilience.
- Conduct analysis and design using Autodesk and CSI software.
- Utilise Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and structural modelling software to prepare drawings and specifications.
- Assist in the preparation of construction/tender documents, project reports and cost estimates.
- Conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with design standards and safety codes.
- Support permitting processes in line with St. Lucia Development Control Authority’s requirements.
- Project management - monitoring construction progress and reporting issues to senior engineers.
The Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Knowledge of OECS building codes and other relevant US or British/European Standards.
- Proficiency in CAD and structural modelling software, Autodesk and CSI software.
- Solid foundation in structural analysis, load calculations and material properties.
- Interest in sustainable and climate-resilient design practices (hurricane resilience, seismic safety and flood mitigation).
- Team-oriented mindset with strong collaboration skills (with architects, contractors and government agencies.
- Strong communication and presentation skills (written & verbal).
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
