                                                 ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT

Our Client, a local shipping company, is looking for a detail-oriented and motivated individual to fill the post of Accounts Assistant. 

The Role

The Accounts Assistant reports to the Accountant and will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring container free time and tracking demurrage (at Port/Terminal) and detention (outside Terminal).
  • Liaising with Port authorities and resolving disputes with customers.
  • Preparing weekly collection reports and applying online receipts.
  • Resolving discrepancies and forwarding paid invoices.
  • Preparing AR reports and reconciling customer accounts.
  • Pursuing collections and maintaining aging reports.
  • Supporting internal and external audits by providing AR records.
  • Assisting with month-end/year-end closing and special projects.

The Candidate

The Accounts Assistant should:

  • Have a background in shipping.
  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Have at least 2 – 3 years of experience in shipping, logistics or operations.
  • Have a minimum of five CXC passes including Math and English.
  • Have a sound knowledge of accounting and accounting principles.
  • Possess basic understanding of container movements and documentation.
  • Have sound understanding and working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with Intermediate level experience using Excel.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) and organisational skills.
  • Have experience with QuickBooks and Octopi.
