                                    DIRECTOR - Investment Generation & Aftercare

Invest Barbados is an economic development agency of the Government of Barbados. Its purpose is to seek, secure and support sustainable investments that enhance the economic and social development of Barbados.

Purpose of the Job: To lead the Investment Promotion & Facilitation (IPF) function by identifying priority investment sectors and key markets; developing strategies and programmes to attract and realize both private and public sector opportunities; targeting potential investors for specific investment opportunities and encouraging current investors to expand their existing investments; facilitating entry and establishment of global business investors; influencing and/or developing relevant policy frameworks and proposing administrative procedures to further improve the business environment and promoting Barbados as a viable and sustainable investment location.

Essential Job Results: 

  1.  Provides Strategic Leadership by among other things: managing IPF strategic and operational planning to achieve the Corporation’s goals; formulating and implementing programmes to promote foreign-direct investment opportunities as well as developing and executing innovative strategies supported by comprehensive budgets and quantitative targets which focuses on maintaining relationships in existing markets and penetrating new markets.
  2. Analyses the Investment Source Markets and Sectors by among other things: sourcing, collating and interpreting market/industry trends, performance and intelligence to feed into the annual business plan.
  3. Meets IPF Operational Requirements by among other things: developing, tracking, and controlling the IPF annual operating budgets; developing and implementing operational risk assessment procedures and frameworks to support and strengthen client relationships and developing, maintaining, monitoring, and evaluating operational procedures, key performance indicators, and work plans for the IPF division on an annual basis.
  4. Promotes the Development of the Global Business Sector by among other things: assisting with the preparation and publication of promotional material in collaboration with the Research & Communications Division.
  5. Maintains a Culture of Quality Client Service in the IPF Division by among other things: establishing and enforcing IPF divisional standards and standard operating procedures for its service delivery; managing the client care programme by finding solutions for any issues and assessing the status of investor leads, inquiries, investment facilitation and after-care activities; developing strong communications programmes in collaboration with the Research & Communications Division to adequately address the importance of client facilitation, mandate expansion, promotion and service excellence to the global business sector in Barbados; directing all investor responses and service activities to ensure the relevant and appropriate distribution of information, assistance and support to investors in a timely manner.
  6. Ensures Compliance by among other things: monitoring and adhering to governmental regulations and administrative procedures and recommending necessary steps to prevent, rectify, minimize or remove constraints on the development and operations of entities in Barbados and ensuring the Division satisfies all statutory and governance requirements related to its operations.
  7. Influences value-added employee results by among other things: implementing recruitment, selection, orientation, training, coaching, counseling, and disciplinary programmes; communicating values; assigning accountabilities; articulating, monitoring and appraising performance results.
  8. Engenders a Participative Team Environment by among other things: being accessible and available to give advice & direction on and/or handle difficult situations and service requests; encouraging IPF team members to cooperate in resolving issues (internal and external); assigning experienced team members to be involved in on-boarding of new team members; coordinating and facilitating regular team sessions to obtain consistent feedback about the daily operations of the IPF Division and how processes can be refined and/or augmented to create more expedient and satisfactory service.
  9. Contributes to the Invest Barbados Team Effort by among other things: leading your team to accomplish service excellence, quality enhancement, client/customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement; developing and preserving good working relationships with colleagues; attending management meetings and Board Meetings (as required); accomplishing other job-related results as needed.
  10. Demonstrates professionalism by among other things: attending educational workshops, seminars and webinars; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies; keeping abreast with trends.; demonstrating a thorough awareness of the laws, regulations, policies and procedures governing the Corporation’s  operations; developing and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the Corporation’s information systems; and displaying a complete knowledge of the IB’s services.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration/International Business/Marketing or related discipline plus a minimum of five (5) years’ practical, related management experience in a similar role with a proven track record of high performance or Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/International Business/Marketing or related discipline plus a minimum of seven (7) years’ practical, related management experience in a similar role with a proven track record of high performance.
  • Experience in developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of the needs of global business investors.

Professional and Technical Knowledge:

  • Knowledgeable of the laws, regulations and best practices in Barbados as it relates to investment attraction and retention.
  • Proven knowledge of state-of-the-art practices in the field.
