, ,MANAGER – CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS
Invest Barbados is an economic development agency of the Government of Barbados. Its purpose is to seek, secure and support sustainable investments that enhance the economic and social development of Barbados.
Purpose of the Job: To support the development and implementation of the communications strategies of the Corporation by planning, implementing, maintaining and overseeing internal and external communications; developing an innovative and effective marketing and public relations (PR) plan that enhances IB’s and the country’s brand and image; developing proactive and reactive communications campaigns and strategies to support the priority goals of IB; implementing and ensuring that objectives are achieved within budget guidelines and in compliance with established regulations.
Essential Job Results:
- Contributes to the Strategic Management Process by among other things: Assisting the Director with responsibility for Research and Communications with the management of the Corporation’s PR and Marketing Advisors and collaborating with the Investment, Promotion and Facilitation Division and the CEO’s Office to develop and execute the corporate communications and brand management strategies for IB as well as the country’s branding.
- Ensures Effective Public Relations Internally and Externally by among other things: implementing the corporate strategies, innovative activities and events to raise the visibility of IB activities and the Barbados investment brand; arranging press conferences and writing press releases as required; coordinating print, broadcast, online advertising, social media engagement and media relations and developing and disseminating photographs, films, recordings, programmes both locally and internationally in a timely, accurate and appealing manner consistent with the vision, ethos and branding of IB and Barbados.
- Conceptualises and Directs Promotional Efforts by among other things: designing and producing various marketing and promotional materials such as brochures and booklets, podcasts, and coordinating distribution of same.
- Oversees the Maintenance of the Corporation’s Website and Intranet by among other things: updating the content; working closely with the ICT Department to ensure the use of modern and appropriate technology/tools to make information available; developing and deploying various electronic communications (email, social networking, etc); supervising the translation of the information posted and the marketing materials into other languages as required.
- Achieves Financial Objectives and Contributes to the financial effort by among other things: preparing and submitting annual budget proposals for budget deliberations; ensuring prudent management of all communications, related budget line items and timely processing of requisitions, billings and invoices, etc; analysing variances; initiating corrective actions.
- Provides support by among other things: preparing and standardising the presentation templates to be used by the management team and officers as required and keeping the presentation slides updated ensuring consistency in slide layout in line with IB’s brand.
- Manages the Human Resources and Influences Staff Results by among other things: assisting with the recruitment, selection, on-boarding/orientation, regular performance management, promotion, discipline, training and development of team members; effectively defining and communicating responsibilities, job expectations, authorities, and accountability of all staff in the department; allocating and supervising the work related to identified sectors; supporting team members in effectively carrying out their duties and responsibilities, including providing coaching and mentorship; facilitating a participative team environment of communication, consensus, cooperation, collaboration, and commitment; building, maintaining, and marshalling a high performance Communications team.
- Seeks to Resolve Employment Relationship Grievances in the Research and Communications Division by among other things: investigating complaints and concerns in a timely manner; evaluating and offering possible courses of action; assisting or advising direct reports on the application of relevant employment policies; encouraging the use of the appeal system; seeking specialist employee relations advice and/or escalating matters as appropriate.
- Engenders a Participative Team Environment by among other things: assigning experienced team members to be involved in on-boarding of new team members; coordinating and facilitating regular team sessions to obtain consistent feedback about the daily operations of the Research and Communications Division and how processes can be refined and/or augmented to create more expedient and satisfactory service.
- Demonstrates Professionalism by among other things: attending educational workshops; reviewing professional literature and establishing relevant professional networks.
- Contributes to the Invest Barbados Team Effort by among other things: leading your team to accomplish service excellence, quality enhancement, client/customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement; developing and preserving good working relationships with colleagues; attending management meetings and Board Meetings (as required); accomplishing other job-related results as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications or related discipline plus a minimum of five (5) years’ practical, related management experience in a similar role with a proven track record of high performance or Diploma in Mass Communications or related discipline plus a minimum of seven (7) years’ practical, related management experience in a similar role with a proven track record of high performance.
- Experience in developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
- Experience in the use of Word Processing and Desktop Publishing packages, website development tools and other related software.
- Command of the English Language (grammar, usage, pronounciation, etc.).
Professional and Technical Knowledge:
- Extensive knowledge of the methods and strategies of corporate communication, marketing and public relations.
- Proven knowledge of state-of-the-art practices in the field.
